Founded at a TGIF. Well, sort of.
In 2012, Vagelis Liaskas and Chris Kekkos met at a TGIF restaurant in Athens. Vagelis shared his vision of establishing a company committed to doing things right from the outset, and Chris eagerly joined Desquared as the first employee and would eventually become its first CTO. Their shared passion for quality and integrity laid the foundation for our company’s culture.
Vagelis, Chris, and most of the early employees made the decision to avoid venture investment, while at the same time bringing more colleagues into the company’s shareholder structure, strengthening our inclusive and empowering culture. For the better part of a decade this decision allowed us to grow and build a culture rooted in quality and responsibility, with 10% of Desquared’s employees becoming shareholders. It also meant we could be selective — not just about the work we took on, but about the partnerships we pursued when the time came to grow the company and scale our impact.
That time came in November 2023, when Desquared formed a strategic partnership with Deutsche Telekom, which invested in us by acquiring 20% of our shares. This partnership proved mutually beneficial: Desquared gained the backing of a global leader and one of the most beloved brands in the world, while Deutsche Telekom gained access to a highly talented group of engineers and designers with experience and passion for developing groundbreaking products.
Our journey includes the significant addition of Cameron Moll, a distinguished design leader who joined us as our Chief Design Officer. His mentorship and vision have been invaluable, reinforcing our commitment to quality and integrity.
